Female athletes are more prone for injuries.

Athletics is a special collection of sports that include competitive sports such as running, throwing, and jumping. The most common types of athletics are track and field, road running, race walking, and cross-country running.

The International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) launched World Athletic Day to promote participation in athletics among young athletes. World Athletics Day is part of the IAAF’s social responsibility project, Athletics for a Better World. This has become one of the key cases for raising public awareness of fitness in today’s world, coupled with the high rates of youth obesity. World Athletic Day is celebrated to educate people on various health-related issues and sports injuries and to promote fitness.

As we see, women are more prone than men to suffer many of the most common sports-related injuries. There are a variety of reasons for this “gender gap,” and there is much about it that remains uncertain. But the recognition of this gap has led to innovative efforts to prevent injuries among women in sports.

Dr Arun Singh is a specialist in sports injury treatment with experience in caring for athletes of all ages and levels. When having words with Dr Arun Singh about Women Athletes are More Susceptible to Injury than he explained the World Wide Research of Relative Energy Deficiency in Sports (RED-S)

RED-S is where the body is not taking in enough energy to meet the demands placed on it by the amount of exercise being performed. This is called Reduced Energy Availability. This leads not only to insufficient energy for peak sports performance but also to insufficient energy to maintain optimal health, with a range of body functions being affected.

When it comes to bone injuries, females are, again, more susceptible than their male counterparts. Women have smaller bone dimensions and are predisposed to lower bone density. Also, estrogen, a hormone in women that protects bones, decreases sharply as women age. All of these factors increase the risk of broken bones.

“Though gender differences do predispose women more to certain musculoskeletal injuries, attention to bone health, nutrition, core strengthening, and a well-structured exercise routine can mitigate some of these problems,” explains Dr ARUN.

Tips to Reduce the Risk of Injury

Because women suffer sports injuries more often than men, it is important they take extra care prior to playing sports or exercising. Below we offer certain exercises and other helpful tips:

ü Leg lifts, back bridges and standing hip flexors help to improve motion and flexibility in the hip and glutes area.

ü Weight-bearing exercises help to build and maintain bone density. Attend dance classes, go for hikes, pick up aerobics or simply get into fast walking.

ü Balance exercises, such as Tai-Chi, can help strengthen the legs.

ü Wear proper footwear and work out on appropriate (not very hard) surfaces.

ü Don’t suddenly intensify or lengthen your workouts.

Here are some important reasons that determine Bone Health:

1. Disorder Eating

2. Irregular Menstrual Cycle

3. Psychological Aspects

Dr Arun also says that Females who are physically active, be it in Sporting Activities, Gym, or Household work, should maintain a balance between Nutrition and Psychological aspects.
