Vaastu shastra principles may be centuries old, but they still work. Behind every Vaastu tip is a deep scientific reason and hence it becomes more plausible to follow.

The shape of the plot is of primary consideration. In Vaastu shastra, the beneficial shapes are square and rectangle. Vaastu considers a rectangle to be the most perfect, stable, and sacred form. A square plot is also auspicious and so is any other plot with an even number of sides. If you have an already inherited land, necessary Vaastu corrections to make the plot into a square or rectangle is an ideal option.

A triangular plot or a plot with three corners is associated with negative energies, which is believed to bring in a lot of problems.Similarly, round, oval, land with more than 4 angles or any irregular shape is not advisable, still acceptable with necessary Vaastu corrections done. The plot can be converted into a square or rectangle. We must make boundary wall on foundation, square it on corners, make theplot squareor rectangular. The left-out portion of the plot will not be in the Vaastu mandal of the house after you build the boundary wall. That area can be used for gardening. parking or any other utility purpose. But before buying such plots, make sure there is enough space for alteration.

Do not buy a small plot that is positioned between two bigger plots. Avoidpurchasing a plot between two apartment buildings.

A home’s direction, layout and other parameters decide to a considerable extent if it’s going to be auspicious for you.

Let us discuss the importance of house-facing direction in Vaastu. Since the direction of a house is determined by the position of its main door, a building where the main entry facing towards north is a north facing structure, it’s called “thekkini” and the one facing south is termed “vadakkini”.East facing house is highly auspicious according to Vaastu shastra, north denotes wellbeing and wealth.

As per Vaastu, the ground level should be elevated in the south and the west, as compared to the north and the east. It should be the lowest in the north-east corner. A low northeast ensures health, wealth, and peace.Make sure there is a gap between the main building and compound wall on north or east.

According to Vaastu shastra a building or premise is a living organism just like a human being. It should be designed in harmonic resonance with the underlying energy structure of the universe.Vaastu is a guideline on how to create a building that vibrates in tune with Universal energy. A house is a tuning fork to cosmic energy and enhance human resonance with that energy. As you know we can’t create  energy. We can only balance the available one.

Considered as the passage to prosperity and progress in life, the main door of a house should preferably face north, east or in the north-east direction since the morning sunlight entering your home through the main door is significant. Also, to ensure that when you step out, you face the north, east or north-east direction.Avoid having the main door in the south, south-west, north-west , or south-east .The main door opening anticlockwise is a big no in Vaastu. The door should open inwards in the clockwise direction. But there are no strict rules for left or right as it totally depends on the hinges.Remember a defected door is believed to be a Vaastu dosha.Hence never use cracked, chipped or broken doors.

Obviously, trees improve positivity in our home. The basic tenet of Vaastu is “Everything has a place, and everything has to be on that place”.A sizeable distance should be maintained between the main building and the trees. It is not  advisable to plant so many trees or plants  across  the premise .Large plants should be away from the house as they block the sun’s rays which is a natural life force energy.

Tall trees must be planted in the west, south and south-west sections of our garden.Do not plant any big tree or plant just in front of the main entrance of the house.Better avoid, flora at the “brahmasthanam” or a dead tree right in front of the house. Apart from this, plants should not be planted even near the wall of the house. They may make the foundation weak.

Vaastu sastra implies that by building a house we are enclosing a drop of universe.Vaastu science can guide you to design powerful spaces which generate positive energies and can help you fulfil all your wishes by conveying them to the universe.

Generally, the measurements such as perimeter of house is mandatory for Vaastu. The car porch and sit out attached to the main structure are to be considered for considering the various parameters of Vaastu shastra.

As per authentic Vaastushastra, over-head tank in North-east prompts superfluous costs and misfortunes.Over-head tank is to be at west or south-west direction. The well or borewell must be in the north-east or east.

North-west is the best direction for installing a septic tank. There should not be bedrooms, pooja rooms, or  kitchen built directly above a septic tank while constructing a house. A faulty septic tank placement can do a lot of damage both to the environment as well as distort the energies of the plot. The drainage pipes should not be from the south-west direction if they are coming from the upper floor of the house.

Never ever have a pillar or staircase block the main gate or the main door.A pillar or even a staircase at the centre of the house is considered a flaw. Flats have their own limitations. It can be rectified through setting upopenings or mirrors. One of the methods to fix the pillar flaw is to cover it with mirrors and ensure that the mirror does not reflect the entrance or the toilet to get rid of negative energy.

A house is more than just a collection of bricks and concrete; it is a symbol of a family’s success, joy, love, and happiness as well.Though Vaastu lays many guidelines, you can consider the ones which you believe in. Because east or west, homeis best!
