Women’s Day Special:The curse of PCOS – Why Indian women are suffering in silence

PMH Biocare, a DPIIT-acclaimed Indian pharmaceutical startup, has announced a new initiative to address the growing problem of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) among Indian women. In an effort to create awareness about PCOS, PMH Biocare has launched a social media campaign encouraging people to ‘Spread the color purple this Holi’.

PCOS is a hormonal disorder that affects approximately 1 in 10 women of reproductive age in India. It is characterized by the growth of small cysts on the ovaries, which can lead to hormonal imbalances and a number of health problems such as irregular periods, infertility, weight gain and acne. Despite being a common condition, PCOS is often undiagnosed and untreated, leading to serious long-term health consequences.

To address this issue, PMH Biocare has launched a social media campaign encouraging people to ‘Spread the color purple this Holi’, referring to the symbolic color for PCOS awareness. The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness of the condition and encourage women to seek medical help if they experience any symptoms.

As part of its efforts to improve women’s health in India, PMH Biocare has also developed a nutraceutical product called ‘Hermones’ to help control the hormonal imbalance associated with PCOS. The company is also launching a dedicated website that will provide online consultations by gynecologists and dermatologists to address PCOS complications. The beta version of the website is due to launch on International Women’s Day.

Commenting on the new initiative, PMH Biocare co-founder Usha Kumari said, “We are committed to improving the health and well-being of women in India and PCOS is a major issue that needs to be addressed. We hope that our new campaign and online platform will help women better understand and manage their symptoms and ultimately lead to better health outcomes.”

Hiralal Choudhry, Chief Innovation Officer and Co-Founder of PMH Biocare added, “Our mission is to provide accessible and affordable healthcare to all and we believe our new website will help us reach more women and give them the support they deserve. We are proud to be at the forefront of efforts to improve women’s health in India and look forward to continuing to make a positive impact in the years to come.”

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, the prevalence of PCOS in India is around 9-18%, which means that around 5-8 million women in India are affected by this condition. By raising awareness about PCOS and providing affordable healthcare solutions, PMH Biocare is taking an important step towards improving women’s health in India.
